What you’ll do

Jemaa el-Fna is famous for its grill stalls, but the best places are often hidden in the lanes nearby, where Marrakchis eat with friends. This food tour takes you there as night falls, in a small group of 10 people maximum.

On the menu (varies with the seasons)

  • Msemen and harcha straight off the griddle, with honey and amlou
  • Tanjia, Marrakech’s bachelor dish slow-cooked overnight in the ashes of the hammam furnace
  • A bowl of snails in spiced broth — for the curious
  • Chicken or seafood pastilla
  • Lamb mechoui in the roasters’ lane
  • Fresh orange juice, almond pastries and mint tea to finish

More than a meal

Your guide tells the story behind each dish, explains Moroccan table manners and what neighbourhood life looks like after sunset. We finish on a terrace overlooking the square as the Gnawa musicians set up.

Come hungry: portions are generous and easily replace dinner. Vegetarian options available if you tell us when booking.

Is there a vegetarian option?

Yes, mention it when booking: your guide swaps meat for vegetable dishes, bissara and fritters.
