What you’ll do

Two hours and forty-five minutes from Marrakech, in Azilal province, the Ouzoud Waterfalls plunge 110 metres into a red-clay canyon covered in olive trees. It’s a family favourite: you walk, you see monkeys, you ride a boat through the spray.

The visit

A local guide meets you at the top of the falls and walks you down the stepped path to the pool. On the way: the old grain mills that gave the site its name, viewpoints over the different falls, and the Barbary macaques living in the trees — a protected species that must not be fed.

At the foot of the falls, a colourful boat ride takes you close to the spray (and sometimes a late-morning rainbow). The climb back up the other bank gives the best views and passes restaurants where you can have a tagine facing the falls.

Three ways to go

  • Shared: shared transport and local guide; lunch and boat ride optional.
  • Private: your own vehicle and driver, flexible timing.
  • All-inclusive: small group of 10 max., with boat ride, lunch and guide — nothing to pay on site.
