Ouzoud waterfalls pouring down the cliffs

In Azilal province, the Ouzoud river drops from a 110-metre cliff in several falls. The name comes from the Berber izouder, “to grind grain”: small water mills still turn on the plateau.

The visit is on foot, along a stepped path lined with olive trees down to the pool. At the foot of the falls, colourful boats take you close to the spray, and Barbary macaques, a protected species, live in the trees above the canyon. Please don’t feed them.

The climb back up the opposite bank passes restaurants where you can have a tagine facing the falls. Allow 2.5 to 3 hours of easy walking on site, with steps that can be slippery.
