What you’ll do

Forty-five minutes from Marrakech, the stone desert of Agafay has some of the most beautiful sunsets in the region, with the Atlas as a backdrop. This evening is our most booked activity — and the one short-on-time travellers choose over the long drive to the Sahara dunes.

The evening

  • Late-afternoon departure from your accommodation, with a photo stop above Lake Lalla Takerkoust.
  • Welcome at camp with mint tea and msemen.
  • Camel ride of about 45 minutes through the hills to a sunset viewpoint.
  • Dinner in a caidal tent: Moroccan salads, lamb or chicken tagine (vegetarian option), fruit and pastries.
  • Show of Gnawa and Berber music around the fire, under a sky free from light pollution.

Back in Marrakech around 10:30 pm. With the private option you get your own vehicle and a secluded table — perfect for a proposal or a birthday.

Agafay nights are cool from October to April (8–12 °C): bring a warm jacket.

Is Agafay a real sand desert?

No, it is a stone desert of rolling hills. For big dunes you need to go to Merzouga (3 days).

Can children ride the camels?

Yes, from age 4, with an adult or on a camel led by the cameleer.

Is alcohol served at camp?

The camp is licensed: Moroccan wine and beer are available to order.
