Blue lake among arid mountains

Built in the 1930s, the Lalla Takerkoust dam holds back the N’Fis river and forms a lake whose colour changes with the seasons. The western shores offer one of the finest views in the region: water in the foreground, the Agafay hills behind and, on clear days, the snowy peaks of the High Atlas.

The lake pairs easily with Agafay in the same half-day. You can have lunch on a restaurant terrace, go kayaking or paddle-boarding in spring and autumn, and explore the surrounding Berber villages on foot or by mountain bike. The water level varies a lot depending on winter rain: in some years the beaches stretch out for dozens of metres.
