What you’ll do

If you’d love the mountains without committing to a multi-day trek, this hike around Imlil is ideal: 4 to 5 hours on foot, about 500 m of ascent, and scenery that changes at every pass.

The route

From Imlil (1,740 m) the trail climbs through apple and walnut orchards to the Tamatert pass (2,279 m), with views of the peaks of the Toubkal massif. We descend towards the villages of Aremd or Tinerhourhine, stone and mud-brick houses stacked on the slopes.

Lunch is with a Berber family: vegetable tagine, bread from the clay oven, fruit and mint tea on the terrace. In the afternoon we return to Imlil along the valley floor and its irrigation channels.

Your guide

Your local mountain guide, compulsory in the national park, adapts the route to the group and the weather. In winter snow can cover the passes, so they choose a lower circuit.

A muleteer can carry children’s bags or those of anyone who gets tired (on request).

FAQ

How fit do I need to be?

You should walk regularly: 4–5 hours with about 500 m of climbing. The guide adapts the pace.

Will we see Toubkal?

You see the massif’s peaks from the pass; Toubkal itself is visible only on very clear days.

What if there is snow?

The guide picks a lower route between villages. The trip goes ahead unless there is a weather warning.
