At 1,740 m, Imlil is the gateway to Toubkal National Park. Village life follows the rhythm of muleteers carrying bags up to the refuges, and of apple and cherry orchards that blossom in April.

From Imlil, trails link the villages of Armed, Tamatert and Aroumd in a few hours, with constant views of the ridges. More ambitious hikers reach the Toubkal refuge (3,207 m) in 5 to 6 hours, before climbing the summit at 4,167 m at dawn the next day.

Since 2019, hikers must be accompanied by a licensed mountain guide beyond Imlil: it is a legal requirement, and a real safety measure in winter, when snow and ice cover the route.
