Ourika Valley

As soon as the road leaves the Haouz plain, the Ourika river carves a valley of walnut trees, oleanders and terraced fields. Mud-brick villages cling to the slopes, and cafés set their tables right by the water.

At the end of the road, Setti Fatma is the starting point of the walk to the seven waterfalls: the first is 30 to 45 minutes away over rocks, the others require sure footing. On the way, it’s worth stopping at an argan cooperative and a Berber home for tea.

The valley is busy at weekends with families from Marrakech: on weekdays it is much quieter. After heavy rain the river can rise quickly, and guides adapt the route.
