Ouarzazate

Nicknamed “the door of the desert”, Ouarzazate is a former garrison town that became the capital of Moroccan filmmaking. The Atlas and CLA studios have hosted hundreds of productions, and some sets can be visited.

The Taourirt kasbah, once a residence of the Glaoui pasha, is one of the largest in the country, with painted-ceiling salons. Just outside town, the Noor solar plant is among the largest concentrated solar installations in the world.

Ouarzazate is above all a stopover: from here the roads lead to the Drâa valley and Zagora, and towards the Valley of Roses, the Dadès and Merzouga.
